Jimmy Page and the Occult

Near the end of the Zeppelin III tour, things were getting out of hand. Jimmy Page's obsession with Aleister Crowley and the occult had taken over his life. It was all the band could do to get Pagey half-sober and focused long enough to play.

The other members of Led Zeppelin finally decided that Pagey could not be left alone. Robert Plant volunteered to be his chaperone.

One late night after a show, Plant had to leave to deal with some family issues, so he put Pagey in a room with Zeppelin's manager Steven Savitt and Savitt's girlfriend. "Stay here with Steven until I get back in a couple of hours, and don't do anything crazy," Plant warned Jimmy Page.

As soon as Plant had left, Savitt's girlfriend retreated to a corner and began to snort cocaine. Jimmy was obviously interested, so Steven called him over to distract him. He knew that Page had an interest in the occult, so he brought out a large obsidian shard and handed it to Page.

"These ancient power stones were used by the Incans. Their Shamans would tie a weight like this in their hair to attract the earth spirits." Page was fascinated. He asked if he could try it, and Steven replied, "be my guest."

"No, I'll give you 200 pounds, mate." said Page. "It's my pleasure."

As Jimmy Page was tying the black weight into his long rockstar hair, he began to feel the power flowing from sinister sources. Just then, the girl in the corner started screaming and clutching her nose. "It's freezing! It's freezing off!" she shrieked.

Without thinking, Page grabbed the first thing in reach--a large lit candle--and poured its molten contents on the wailing woman's nose. Suddenly, Robert Plant burst into the room to see Page, with a black rock dangling from his hair, pouring hot wax onto a screaming woman's face. "What the bloody hell is going on here, Jimmy? I told you to keep it cool!"

Page replied, "There's this lady whose nose is a little too cold, and I'm buying a hair weight from Steven."
